Project Management

At the very start, all  titles are assigned to a dedicated project manager (PM), who will guide your book through all phases, from the raw manuscript to the finished project. On any given day, you’ll have the opportunity to check in with the PM to see where your project is in the production pipeline. The project manager will be your primary point of contact throughout the process.

Editorial

This includes two separate phases: copyediting and proofreading.

Copyediting is typically done at the very start: A copy editor reads a raw manuscript file, word for word. The copy editor’s focus will be on 

• • Correcting faulty spelling, grammar, punctuation, and syntax

• • Ensuring consistency in spelling, hyphenation, numerals, fonts, and capitalization

• • Checking sentence structure, sense, and overall clarity of meaning

• • Rephrasing of text as necessary rather than rewriting

• • Creating queries for unclear statements

• • Checking specific cross-references

The copy editor’s primary concern is the language and the way in which the matter is presented, rather than the content itself.

Depending on the quality of the original manuscript, including whether it was written by a native-English speaker, the changes made by the copy editor can be extensive. 

For that reason, these changes must be made before the manuscript is formatted for final publication.

Proofreading will be performed once the copyedited manuscript has been formatted into pages. The proofreader will read the page proofs against the manuscript, to ensure that they match.

Virtus assigns all work to tested and certified editorial professionals, who are selected based on their discipline experience and areas of expertise.

Design

Our design services include both the interior and the cover. 

Three interior design samples and three cover design samples will be provided.

For the cover, authors may submit ideas, suggestions, or an actual image to be used on the cover.

Depending on your budget, you will have various options to customize both your interior design and your cover. All design work is done by certified creative professionals using Adobe InDesign.

Production

Once an interior design is selected, your book will be formatted into high-quality book pages. If desired, these pages can also be formatted into an accessible eBook. Additionally, Virtus can provide either an AI-generated or human-read audio book.

Marketing

Virtus offers several levels of marketing services. For those interested in a “hands-on” approach, Virtus can provide guidelines for managing your own marketing campaign. Alternatively, we can offer various levels of full-service marketing, some of which could include Amazon author and book page creation and the management of ads.
